Head of the Employers’ Algerian Federation Boualam Merakchi said a new study shows that buildings and enterprises in Algeria consumes electricity 10 times more than what should be consumed.

Merakchi said those figures will be transmitted to the energy, commerce, housing and environment ministries. This will be done during meetings between the Federation’s officials and ministers due to be held before November. Official letters will be exchanged as well.

“Energy consumption volume should be reduced to solve Algeria’s economic crisis. All the government’s programs meant to reduce electricity consumption were not fruitful,” he told Echorouk.

“Houses, home appliances and even enterprises consume 10 times more than what should be consumed. Because of that, we must sound the alarm.” he added.

He also said his federation established a program to optimize energy. It will be submitted to higher authorities soon. It will also be presented in the Land and Environment Summit due to be organized in Morocco in November.

“Such a decision will enable to inject tens of billion of dollars to the State’s Treasury within five years only. It will also solve electricity crisis in Algeria in a definitive way. The government will not have to raise tariff,” he added.

Speaking about economic partnership, Merrakchi said a delegation of 30 private enterprises will visit Berlin to seek new partnerships in industry, technology, energy, mechanics and cars field. They will also visit Portugal in October.

“At present, priority is to diversify partnership and benefit from pioneer countries’ experience and technology. France should not remain our main partner. We have many opportunities with all the countries. We will need Germany’s experience,” he said.
