Algerian Culture Ministry to set up commission in charge of prior screening of imported movies

Well informed sources told Echorouk newspaper that the Culture Ministry had decided to set up a special commission in charge of the prior screening of all movies imported from abroad ahead of their projection in cinema halls in Algeria .

The same sources added that the importers of these foreign movies should, henceforth, supply a DVD copy of the film to the relevant commission for a prior viewing before getting the required projection authorization.

A Culture Ministry official explained that such a move, even if it upsets certain disgruntled film distributors, was only aimed at streamlining and regularizing the cinematographic market in Algeria , similarly to what is being done in other European nations like for instance France and Germany , he said.
