The joint committee of the National Union of the Private Pharmacists and the Ministry of Health, Population and Hospitals Reform identified the list of medicines which notice a scarcity in the Algerian market since the beginning of 2011.

Same Committee discussed the turmoil in the market as a result of pressure by Barons of drugs and the recurring fluctuations, saying that the market will see a gradual stability from mid-May after the ministry intervened to ratify the licenses for importing all medicines and raw material in the pharmaceutical industry and even the material of packaging and accessories, as government decided to stop it in order to guide the importers and producers to real pharmaceutical industry.

“Scarcity of medicines in private pharmacies and even at hospitals since the beginning of 2011 reached its peak during April and will notice a gradual solution from the mid-May because government postponed the implementation of instructions relating to compelling producers to distribute their pharmaceutical products to break the monopoly of importers, and licensing the canning of drugs as it decided to shut down the pharmaceutical industry because it does not contribute to the promotion of the national production of medicines”, Head of the NUP, Belambri said.
