Algerian government set to pay civil servants' overdue wages shortly
At the behest of Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia, the finance ministerial department has enjoined all the treasury overseers across the 48 provinces of the country to speed up the payment of all overdue salaries of civil servants nationwide.
- The latter will receive their wages shortly and in consistence with the newly-revamped salary scale corresponding to the years 2010 and 2011.
- The civil servants’ revised salary scale also includes the relevant bonuses and allowances agreed upon late last year after a string of negotiations and consultations between the various parties at issue.
- Observers suggest to this effect that the ongoing liberalization and incentive measures now being enforced by the authorities in various fields of endeavour are clearly aimed at calming tensions and precluding a new outbreak of violent street protests which could slide out of control and steep the country into turmoil and anarchy.
