Italy’s “Frattelli d’Italia” (Right-Wing Party) has called on the Italian president and his government to make serious representations with Algeria and to summon the Algerian ambassador posted in Rome so as “to protect the island of Sardinia from the influx of 1,400 Algerian illegal migrants since the beginning of this year, accusing them of indulging in thefts, in sexual harassment and bothering local church leaders”.

“On the day that Italian President Matarilla is due to arrive, dozens of Algerian clandestine immigrants continue to flock in,” the Italian Frattelli Party said in a statement which was read out by Sardinia’s spokesman Salvatore Deida, ahead of President Sergio Matarilla’s upcoming visit to the island of Sardinia.

“Seventy Algerian illegal migrants (Harraga) have arrived between October 1 and October 2 and more than 1,400 others since the start of this year,” the statement indicated.

“The latter won’t stay long on the spot but are to be deployed in the city of Cagliari in search of a cruise to the Italian mainland,” said the statement, which was widely publicized throughout the island of Sardinia.

“It is disturbing that we did not deport these Algerian illegal immigrants back to their home country. They have been carrying out on the streets illegal acts of theft, sexual harassment and even harassment against church leaders,” the spokesman added.

“We expect Italy to raise its voice against Algeria and to defend the maritime border of Sardinia,” he said.

“We want President Matarilla, who is the supreme commander of the armed forces, to fully realize the scope of the bitter problems we are currently experiencing here in Sardinia, and the need to strengthen the security forces with more personnel,  in order to stand by the defense of the island’s coasts and to bring back those foreign migrants who enter illegally into Sardinia. We are tired of this vexed problem”, the statement further underscored.
