Algerian humanitarian vessel bound for Gaza facing Israeli ban

The Algerian humanitarian vessel bound for the Palestinian enclave of Gaza today set sail from the Turkish port of Anatolia but there are reports that the Israeli authorities are firmly intent on preventing the vessel from docking at the port of Gaza.

  • The Israeli authorities have reportedly decided to prevent any official or non official Arab initiative aimed at easing the long-standing blockade imposed by Israel on the Palestinian Gaza strip despite a chorus of international condemnation.
  • The same sources suggested that the Israeli authorities were determined to block such an initiative in a bid not to open the door to a repeat of similar initiatives by other Arab countries which seek to extend help and assistance to the besieged Palestinian population.
  • The same sources added this commendable humanitarian endeavour initiated by Algeria and Koweit, if it succeeds in bringing help and assistance to the oppressed Gaza population could well snowball by leaps and bounds in the region to the dismay of the Tel Aviv authorities whose glaring aim is to tighten further the blameworthy stranglehold on the Gaza population as part of their repressive policy.
  • The Algerian and Koweiti vessels bound for Gaza are loaded with over 8.000 tonnes of basic humanitarian supplies designed to relieve the dire ordeal of the long-neglected population of Gaza.
