Algerian judoka boycotts Israeli in World Championship
An Algerian judoka refused to fight an Israeli opponent in the World Taekwondo Championship in Korea.
- Zakaria Chenouf, 18, preferred to quit the first round rather than facing the Israeli judoka in the division of less than 63 kg.
- The Algerian team led by Mourad Laalam participated in the competition with six judokas. Two of them are female. They all disqualified in the first round expect Mokdad Liamine in the division of 54 kg. He qualified to the second round before he had been eliminated.
- The World Championship in Korea is the second world competition for Algeria. It participated in a previous world championship in Denmark and ranked 47 among male competitors and 49 among females.
