Algerian lawyers to launch a strike next Wednesday
Algiers-The Organization of Algerian Lawyers decided to launch a strike next Wednesday, starting from the capital and aiming to dissuade the PM Ahmed Ouyahia to freeze and withdraw the draft law of regulating the profession, the organization’s head Abdelmadjid Sellini told Echorouk.
“We will burn the black cloak in the courts. The draft law is robbery and assault to the basic rights of citizens. It is a clear attempt and deliberate intention by government to bury the last bastions of freedom in the country, through looting independence and liberty of the lawyers and harming the right of citizens in litigation, which is contrary to international agreements and directives of the President Bouteflika. Passing this project is a serious setback for the profession. Lawyers are ready to do any move that would lead to legal abortion of a dangerous law which would destroy freedoms in our country”, he asserted.
