Algerian master degree holders in Egypt protest at the higher education ministry in Algiers

A total of 70 students protested Monday next to the Algerian higher education ministry to claim their rights for obtaining equivalent diplomas to master degrees they had got in Egypt in 2008.

  • Security forces surrounded the ministry headquarters to prevent the students from entering and continuing their protests. Yet, the protesters refused to go and decided to go on hunger strike. Others said they would set themselves on fire if authorities did not intervene.
  •
  • The students’ representative told Echorouk they could not wait for promises any more. “We have waited for four years. Former minister promised us to give us equivalent degrees but nothing has been done so far.”
  •
  • “Last week, we went to the President’s Office where public relations official promised us to find urgent solutions but none of those promises were kept.”
