Representative of the Justice and Development Front Hassan Aribi applied for a visa to Iraq at its embassy in Algiers to visit Algerian prisoners there.

“I am totally ready to visit sister country Iraq to check the situation of our jailed nationals. They had gone there to back up Iraqi forces against the US invasion,” the deputy said in his application letter.

Earlier on February 18th, he held a meeting with the Iraqi embassy’s chargé d’affaires about the issue.

He said, in a previous release, that the embassy reported that there are 7 Algerians only jailed in Iraq. Yet, he has a list of 8 prisoners.

A few days ago, the embassy denied that it would have executed any Algerian prisoner. “They are treated in transparency in accordance with the human international law.”

Aribi addressed a letter to the Algerian foreign minister Ramtane Lamamra, saying “the number of nationals jailed in Iraq is eight (8) and they may be executed at any time. So, what are the urgent steps you will take to save their life and bring them back to Algeria for a fair trial?”
