Algerian pôrts under high pressure ahead of Ramadan
More than 12 thousands containers of foodstuffs designed to be sold during the holy month of Ramadan arrived to the different Algerian ports as from last week until now, estimates released by the Algerian customs’ services have revealed to Echorok.

800 containers of imported were unloaded in the ports of Algiers, Oran, Bejaia Skikda and Djidjel while 400 others are still waiting. The content is made up of products highly praised by the Algerian consumers during this special religious occasion.

Among them, cheeses, coffee, tea, dyed fruits, oil, olives, sugar, canned fruits and vegetables, mushroom, frozen fish, juices and other products not made domestically, it said.

The importers have supplied the Algerian supermarkets with all types of products not familiar to the Algerian consumer including Italian and Dutch cheeses and Colombian coffee.

The same sources have indicated that sugar importers, led by the private giant company “Cevital”, were delivered 60 containers so far among them 50 were destined to the port of Algiers and 10 others to the port of Oran. The demand on this product reaches its peak in Ramadan.

Algerian customs are facing tremendous pressure at the different ports on account of the growing activities and staggering number of containers stockpiled on the berths.

The Algerian Trade Ministry has issues instructions ordering its services in the different ports to give priority to the imported goods brought by the operators.
