Algerian President Bouteflika blames the country’s political parties for their wanton sidelining of women
President Bouteflika called on political parties and the civil society associations to pool their efforts to ensure the full involvement of women in fields of endeavour.

President Abdellaziz Bouteflika has castigated the country’s political parties for their stubborn policy aimed at marginalizing Algerian women who are willingly barred, he said, from occupying senior functions.

Taking the floor at the conference hall of El Aurassi hotel Saturday, on the occasion of the celebration of international women’s day, the Algerian head of state urged the various political parties to alter their negative stance towards women by involving them more in the running of the country’s political and socio-economic affairs.
The Algerian women should be given the chance to occupy senior posts of responsibility in the state and government structures as well as in the legislative body, President Bouteflika pointed out in his keynote speech.
He stressed that the country’s political parties and the civil society associations should pool their efforts to ensure the full involvement of women in fields of endeavour in order to allow them to demonstrate their know-how and thereby enhance Algeria’s brand-image at the national and international level.
