Algerian president launches the 1 million housing project

The Algerian government has endorsed the broad lines of the five-year plan (2010-2014) as well as the major projects registered in it. The cabinet chaired by PM Ahmed Ouyahia will hear the finance minister’s presentation in which he will display the implementation strategy of the $150 billion plan.

• Echourok sources revealed that M Karim Djoudi has taken into account all the ministries’ proposals to draw up his strategy in accordance with the president’s road map on which he focussed his program during his campaign trail last February.

• The “Pharaoh” plan that will coast $150 billion will mainly be devoted to improve the citizen’s living standards and conditions. The housing sector will have the lion’s share as some 1 million housing units are set to be built during this program in addition to the previous million registered in the previous five-year plan.

• The government intent to create some 3 million jobs over this period in addition to the major high lands Highway (1700 kms long). Other projects are included in this program including the modernization of rail roads and creation of streetcar lines in major cities and the reception of Algiers’ subway.
