The lawyer of the Algerian “Rai†singer Cheb Mami has started the legal procedures to enable his client to benefit from the release on parole according to the French penal law which grants the right to the accused to support a minor child under 10.

-
The procedure wouldn’t be possible unless the remaining period to be served is equal or less than four years and the prisoner has showed good behaviour during his detention and never been involved in judicial problems in the past.
-
-
Khelifati Mohammed ( Mami’s civil name) fulfils all these requirements and seems to have great chances to benefit from the legal procedure stated in the French law.
-
-
According to the law, Mami’s movements should be supervised by a judge but will cherish his full freedom including his dwelling in his usual apartment and of course resuming his professional activities normally.
-
-
The examination of the lawyer’s request by Paris’ court will take two to six weeks at maximum. The return of Cheb Mami to his wife and minor child and his comeback to the artistic scene is a matter of days, several lawyers have revealed to Echourok.

Meanwhile, a Paris judge has issued an arrest warrant against the publisher of the magazine “ Entrevue” to investigate him on the publishing of photos to the singer while in detention considering the move as breach of privacy.

The photos have sparked huge controversy prompting the singer to sue the prison’s managers and his transfer from “ La santé” penitentiary to “Meulin”. The plaintiff has asked huge compensations in return putting the professional prospects of the magazine at stake.
