Algerian students rallied by the Libyan embassy in Algiers to denounce the genocide
Algerian students staged yesterday a rally in front of the Libyan embassy in Algiers to express their solidarity with the Libyan people and denounce the atrocities perpetrated by Moamar Al Gadhafi’s regime in this country, calling for the resignation of the ambassador in place.
- Some 60 students affiliated to the Independent Students’ Union gathered at around 11 am at the Libyan embassy raising banners against the regime and slogans supporting the revolution like “ Army and people support you Libya”.
- The protesters have burnt a giant poster of the president Gadhafi in front of the cameras.
- The Union’s PR Abdelhamid Othmani has revealed” We intended to stage a huge rally but decided to organize a symbolic sit-in in accordance with the regulation that forbids marches in Algiers”.
- He went on saying” The sit-in reflects the students’ stand and by extension the whole Algerian population, concerning the ongoing genocide in Libya”.
- The protesters addressed the ambassador through a letter calling him to resign and denounce the Libyan regime but the ambassador refused to meet them. The letter read outdoor says” Do not hesitate to resign and stand by your own people before it’s too late”.
- Many passersby and students joined the protesters who raised slogans against the Libyan. The sit-in lasted nearly 40 minutes.
