Algerian taxpayers should pay more to finance their future pensions

The surveys’ department at the finance ministry is currently working on elaborating a batteries of measures designed to find other funding sources for the pensions and social security funds at the expense of the employees in the public and private sectors.

• Reliable sources at the relevant ministry have indicated that the employment and social security ministry has given its provisional agreement for this operation which is designed to find new financial sources for these funds.

• The new decree has clearly defined a series of financial laws likely to be the roadmap for the creation of new funds in a move to sustain those already existing.

• The same sources have noted that the project will pave the way for a legislation that will enhance services and keep the financial of the funds afloat.

• The Algerian authorities have so far made of the social security system one of their key priorities spending some 200 billion Algerian Dinars from the public treasury to finance these funds.
