Algerian trade authorities to impose stringent measures to regulate the sector

The ministry of trade has decided to forbid the economic operators starting for the importers to the retailers from selling goods that do not comply with the specifications included in the trade registries, as a move to protect the consumers and regulate the sector.

  • The draft Executive Decree urges the relevant services to classify trade activities according to specific symbols, thus forcing the retailers to sell products belonging to the same family also known as homogenous goods.
  •
  • This suggestion is designed to curb the cacophony that is prevailing in the sector especially in the import- export activities where operators use their trade registers to import foodstuffs and furniture and cosmetics at the same time.
  •
  • The move is designed to protect the consumers in the sense that the operators will no longer behave like in the past when they were displaying and selling foodstuffs, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products all in one disregarding the basic health and hygienic principles.
