The consular services at the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Algiers have stopped granting visa for weeks now indefinitely and without any prior justification.

The Algerian foreign ministerial department has so far not officially reacted to such a restrictive move on the part of the Emirati diplomatic mission posted in Algiers.

Well – informed sources told Echorouk that some visas allowing entry into the UAE were being granted to only those Algerians aged above forty and notably to Algerian women aged over 40 who should be accompanied by a male sponsor or failing that, they should have to pay in advance a refundable deposit worth 10 million centimes (DA) to a travel agency chartered to this effect by the Emirati Embassy services in Algiers.

The same sources further indicated that two other countries including Tunisia and Egypt were also targeted by similar restrictions stemming from alleged “security reasons”.

These drastic restrictions have been enforced by the UAE embassy services on the basis of verbal instructions only, the sources added.
