Algerians pay the most expensive electricity invoice ever since the independence

Electricity and gas high tariff raised complaints which were lodged to authorities. It is considered as the highest tariff ever since Algeria’s independence. Some people protested at Sonelgaz while others collected all the invoices and resent them to the national enterprise to express protests.

Sonelgaz justified the tariff increase saying electricity is excessively consumed during summer.

A man told Echorouk he went to the enterprise to protest. He received an invoice of 12,000 DZ while he has only a fridge and a television set.

“I get home with my wife in the evening. We are out at work all the day. So, how was consumed power calculated?” he said.

Head of the National Organization of Consumers Protection and Orientation Mustapha Zebdi supported the idea of protesting in a civilized way.

He said the last invoices showed the highest tariff ever.

“In our capacity of an organization to defend consumers’ rights, we support their rights. Every consumer is allowed to express anger and dissatisfaction about the State in a peaceful and positive way,” he told Echorouk.

The organization opened a regional office in the south and established a program to study the tariff in collaboration with representatives in southern provinces.
