Algeria's trade exchanges with the Arab world don't exceed 1%

The government's decision to scrap the relevant taxes on a series of finished industrial products in addition to 36 agricultural products imported from the European Union has brought about a steep hike in the price of these products on the national market.

  • The rise recorded in the price of these strategic products came about with the implementation of the relevant governmental decision on January 1st 2011.

  •
  • Various essential products imported from the European Union benefited from a drop in the payment of taxes ranging between 20 and 100 % in keeping with certain provisions of the association accord signed in Valencia –Spain- between Algeria and the European Union in 2002.

  •
  • As a result, the Algerian authorities have alerted their European counterparts about the blatant imbalance of such an accord notably as regards the current customs’ tariffs which have proved to be highly detrimental to the national economy as the reciprocity is not applied fairly on both sides.
