Algiers Tramway forging ahead just one month after its inauguration

The new tramway of Algiers is being steadily used by numerous passengers just one month after its official inauguration on May 8th 2011.

• This tramway has become the favourite means of transport for those citizens living on the Bab Ezzouar – Bordj El Kiffan axis on the eastern outskirts of Algiers.

• The figures recorded after a month of its putting into service are telling evidence of its growing success.

• A tour carried out by Echorouk reporters at the level of the various stations allowed them to see for themselves the impressive number of citizens who are now using this brand – new tramway as a swift and safe means of transport.

• The passengers are males and females of all ages and from all walks of life.

• About 540.000 passengers have so far used this new means of transport since May 8^th 2011.

• According to figures secured by Echorouk from the ETUSA urban and suburban transport enterprise, around 18 thousand passengers are using the tramway on a daily basis.
