An Algerian former Guantanamo detainee sues Bush

A former Guantanamo detainee has decided launching a legal action against former US President George W. Bush over arbitrary 8 year jail, where he was “treated like animals.”

Saber Lahmar 42, an Algerian national who spent 8 years in Guantanamo detention camp, told French reporters that he was arrested in Bosnia by US forces over charges of plotting the bombing of US Embassy in Sarajevo, in 2002. Lahmar was jailed in Guantanamo until 2009.

Lahmar further revealed that he was treated like animals in his 1.5 square-meter cell, in Guantanamo, nicknamed the shameful prison.

“I subjected all kind of torture techniques. I was forced to sit down on a very low stool  for 18 hours; they kept me awake and tortured with electric shocks whenever I try to stand up or change position,” the former detainee said.

“They tried to extract confessions that suit them; yet, I didn’t have what to say, but to defend myself and deny their charges,” he added.

Lahmar concluded that he just cannot understand how come the US pretends respecting human rights and requires others to do so.
