Anarchical recruitment behind suicide attempts among policemen
Policemen attempt to kill themselves because a large number of them were recruited with no regard to their capacity of facing pressure, a conference moderator said Thursday.

“Some executives and police officers face professional harassment,” said the moderator.

Dalila Zouad, a psychologist at the National Security General Department said a prevention strategy against suicide attempts was adopted at police personnel.

“The number of suicide attemps among policemen can not be disclosed. It is a professional secret,” she said in the conference organized by Mahfoud Boussebssi enterprise in Algiers.

She presented the comprehensive strategy and determined the factors behind suicide attempts like familiar problems, workplace tension, tiredness and psychological pressure.

She added that police chiefs do not valorise their employees’ performance. “That causes disappointment among policemen who deal with crimes, traffic accidents and terror attacks everyday.”

“Because of that, death becomes something banal.”

She said security department mobilised psychologists in Algeria to help security employees including guard borders, judicial policemen and public security forces.
