ANP Army Detachment Eliminates Weapons’ Smuggler Near Libyan Border

The Ministry of National Defense announced on Tuesday evening the elimination of an arms’ smuggler and the arrest of his wife after an exchange of fire with an ANP army detachment near the Libyan border.

According to a statement issued by the National Defense Ministry, “On October 31, 2017, a detachment of the National People’s Army (ANP) managed to eliminate an arms’ smuggler who opened fire on the detachment members in the Tarat In Amenas area in the aftermath of a surveillance operation targeting his suspicious car, loaded with coal, and which was hailing from the Libyan border”.

It added that “the operation also enabled the arrest of his wife, who was accompanying hi and helped retrieve two (02) Kalashnikov submachine guns, seven (07) hunting rifles as well as (323) rounds of different calibers and (400) Libyan Dinars”.

According to the National Defense Ministry statement, “this successful operation emphasizes the high vigilance and  staunch resolve of the valiant elements of the National People’s Army, stationed all along the borders, in maintaining the safety of the national territory and thwarting any attempt to  infiltrate into it, notably through the smuggling of weapons or any attempt designed to deal a blow to the security and stability of the country”.
