The National People’s Army seized a cache of numerous weapons, including 17 anti-aircraft missiles on Sunday in the southern province of Adrar, the national defense ministry said in a statement.

A People’s National Army detachment from the operational sector of the southern province of Adrar (3rd military command) has seized this morning, 6 November 2016, a very large quantity of arms and ammunition,” the statement noted.

During Sunday’s combing operation, the valiant ANP military recovered 17 anti-helicopter missiles, 28 grenades, 27 grenade detonators, one rocket launcher, 20 ammunition magazines and 200 bullets, the ministry said in a statement.

The ANP Army also seized 20 Kalashnikov submachine guns and two Simonov semi-automatic rifles.

A total of 28 grenades, seventeen anti-helicopter 57-mm missiles, anti-helicopter rocket launchers, 20 different cartridge clips, 27 grenade detonators and 200 bullets of various calibers have also been retrieved.

With the nefarious “Daesh” terrorist group now under pressure in its Libyan stronghold of Sirte, neighboring countries Algeria, Tunisia and Mali are concerned about possible terrorists’ infiltration and smuggling of arms spilling across their borders. Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, ousted in 2011, kept huge stockpiles of weapons stashed across Libya.
