ANP forces eliminate wanted terrorist chieftain in eastern Algeria
The combined forces of the National Popular Army (ANP) and the National Gendarmerie have eliminated a dangerous terrorist chieftain in the eastern part of Algeria following a large-scale combing operation in several eastern regions spanning the mountainous areas of Jijel, Bejaia and Bordj Bou Arreridj.
-
The eliminated terrorist, aged 57 and nicknamed “Abou Dhar El Ghafari” was the chieftain of the so-called “Biban battalion” which is reportedly active in several eastern areas of the country.
- This most wanted terrorist was shot dead by the ANP combined forces during a prolonged shoot-out with a terrorist group in the Oued Beni Azrane in the Khanafou forest in the eastern province of Bordj Bou Arreridj.
- This dangerous GSPC terrorist was behind the murder of up to 24 Gendarmes and the wounding of several others during a terrorist ambush in the Mansouria region in the year 2009, according to security sources.
- Observers say that the elimination of this terrorist chieftain, who is said to be very close to GSPC leader Droudkel, is to all intents and purposes a telling blow to the terror organization which is steadily going downhill owing to the unflagging anti-terrorist combing operations waged by the ANP forces in conjunction with the National Gendarmerie and security services.
