ANP forces prohibit olives' picking in Boumerdes province to head off terrorists' infiltration
Reliable sources told “Echorouk” that the National Popular Army (ANP) has issued firm instructions to all the inhabitants of the eastern Boumerdes province prohibiting them from indulging in the picking of olives from olive trees with the aim of warding off any terrorists' infiltration in the region.
-
The same sources said that the ANP’s stringent guidelines came in the aftermath of repeated infiltrations by GSPC terrorists posing as olives’ collectors in several forests in the region of Boumerdes.
- Terrorists draped in women’s clothes seized the opportunity of olives’ picking in the nearby forests to ambush forces of the National Popular Army causing several victims among them.
- Terrorists still active in the Boumerdes region often plant roadside bombs on the borderline of the forests to target troops of the National Popular Army during the latter’s regular anti-terrorist combing operations there.
- However, some disgruntled citizens from several regions east of Boumerdes province including Leguatta, Bordj Menail and Dellys told Echorouk that the ban imposed on olives’ collection in their forests was highly detrimental to their interests, stressing that this ancestral practice was their main source of income.
