Elements of the People’s National Army (ANP) operating in the region of Bordj Badji Mokhtar in Algeria’s deep south have arrested 35 people of Algerian nationality and 7 Malian nationals who were directly involved in smuggling activities in the area.

The latter were trying to smuggle out of Algeria large quantities of foodstuffs and other basic materials on board eight 4*4 wheel-drive vehicles before being intercepted and arrested by an ANP patrol on duty near the town Bordj Badji Mokhtar in Algeria’s far southern part.

In another security-related operation, ANP troops also rounded up 10 illegal immigrants hailing from Syria who were on their way to the Libyan border during night time in the Debdeb area, according to a press release issued on Sunday by the National Defense Ministry.
