Arab doctors ask Egypt to hand over contributions previously addressed to Gaza

Dr. George Aftimos, General Secretary of the Union of Arab Doctors called all medical institutions that are members in the council to participate in the meeting of General Secretariat in Beirut next Tuesday, in order to develop new plans of work, choose a committee for census of properties and funds of the council, and investigate into the fate of Arab doctors voluntary aid to Gaza, previously received by the former General Secretariats in Cairo which did not reach beneficiaries.

  • Dr. George Aftimos, announced the launch of large projects to serve doctors and patients and medicine in general in the Arab region, as well as in all member states without exception. He pointed out that the first regular meeting of the Union’s General Secretariat to be held on May 11 and 12 in Beirut, will be allocated to study details of these projects. He also asserted that the General Secretariat sent invitations to all state members including Egypt in order to attend the meeting.
  •
  • The meeting will solve many problems, including how to recover the trust funds from Cairo bank, and study the issue of Arab doctors contributions for the people of Gaza during the Israeli strikes, which disappeared in the Egyptian city Rafah and did not reach to Gaza people to the beginning of last year after the disappearance of thousands of dollars that were handed over by the Association of Bahraini Doctors to the committee of Relief at the former General Secretariat of the Union in Cairo, in order to buy ambulances equipped with the latest medical devices used for interventions and emergency for Gaza people. However; the disappearance of money and ambulances obliged the need to open an investigation by the council before referring the case to the Egyptian and international courts.
  •
  • “Three Arab countries joined the list of nine Arab countries which met in Algiers last March and elected the new Head and General Secretariat of the Arab Doctors Union. An Algerian delegation headed by Doctor Mohamed Bekat Berkani, traveled Saturday morning to Beirut in order to put the concerns of various Algerian doctors on the table of the Arab Union of Doctors and reflect the strong presence of Algeria”, Dr. Berkani said.

  • “Algerian participation in the council of Arab Doctors’ Union in Beirut will be qualitative and strong as Algeria adopted the right direction of the union and  rescue it from the Egyptian monopolization. Support by the billionaire Alwaleed Bin Talal and union of Arab countries, as well as the new General Secretariat in Beirut will contribute to the development of health in the Arab world”, he adds.
