Former French Ambassador and writer Michel Raimbaud Thursday said Algeria is protected from conflicts in the Middle East.

« Algeria is away from current conflicts in the Middle East, » Raimbaud told a news conference in Algiers.

He added that all the « tragic adventures experienced by the Middle East nations including Syria and Iraq are no more than an episode of a series which started early in the 1990’s. »

« It started with the collapse of the former Soviet Union and not with the beginning of the Arab Spring, » he said.

He believes that the Arab Spring is a name made by western media such as islamophobia which is fed by extremism. « This notion was also made by the west along with new concepts such as moderate Islamists, democratic Jihadists and others. »

« The Middle East countries should find solutions to overcome current crises and avoid western plans. »

He believes that the situation in Syria suggests the and of the war. « Syria resists and I am reassured. »

« After five years of conflict, the Syrian State resisted and enjoy all its legitimacy. It has control over all its institutions, » he said.

He added that the western world can not skip its committment in the peace process in Syria. « The US domination is about to be ended. Russia recovered military and technology equality. »

The writer is in Algeria to present his book about the Middle East in the Algiers International Book Fair.

He was France’s Ambassador to Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Mauritania, Syria, Yemen and countries in Latin America.
