ArcelorMittal Annaba frozen as 5300 workers go on strike

5300 workers at ArcelorMittal Annaba iron ore group have started an unlimited strike to claim 35% wage hikes, while the group manager threatened to impose wage cut for workers who participate in the strike.

The group chief executive said the workers have rejected a 24% gradual hike in their wages through the three upcoming years.

However, head of the workers trade unions said the threat to impose wage cut for workers who participate in the strike can but incite them to maintain their action until their demands are thoroughly met.

The activist said the fate of the workers is at stake, as the chief executive keeps silent towards the labour claims, including setting a 35% increase in wages as well as improving the working conditions inside the group.

The unionist further urged the general direction to implement as soon as possible the investment plan decided on in 2010.
