Basic foodstuffs witness “obscure†price surge despite authorities’ enactement package
The prices of some foodstuffs including oil, fat products, some packed milk and other by-products have witnessed a surge these last few days despite the “political measures†enacted by the authorities to stabilize them.
- During the inspection visit carried out by Echourok’s reporter around shopping malls and wholesale dealers, we’ve been told that the average increase of a five liter oil can was around 25 Algerian Dinars depending o the brand.
- “Florial” is sold 780 AD and “Afia” has reached 590 AD while the price was 570 AD few days ago. “ Safina” jumped from 540 AD to 550 AD.
- Butter prices also registered a noticeable rise for instance “ Bettouche” registered a record hike of 35 AD passing from 190 AD to 225 AD, “ Matina” went up from 165 AD to 185 AD similarly for the “ La belle”.
- The prices of packed milk and by- products have witnessed the same disturbances as “Candia” jumped from 68 AD to 73 AD. The by- products including yogurts also witnessed this rise “ Danone” has reached 13 AD while the price unit was only 10 AD recently.
- Trying to find an explanation to this sudden surge of prices, the wholesalers have asserted that the rise came from the source referring to the distributors and producers with whom they deal with.
- They have indicated that they kept the same benefit margin they use to have and are not responsible for this”suspicious” rise.
- For his part , the Secretary General of the Algerian Merchants and Craftsmen Union , Salah Souileh has declared to Echourok” that “ His organization is not aware of the matter”.
