Batna: A Palestinian student accused of exporting mercury

The security services have arrested in Batna in eastern Algeria a 28-year old Palestinian student (Ressan. K) for possession of 300 grams of mercury and 37 pieces of crystal.

 

 

  • These dangerous materials thought to be used for the making of explosives were found in the Palestinian student’s rented flat in the new city of Batna in eastern Algeria.

  • A security agent and a plumber were also rounded up as accomplices after an exhaustive investigation carried out by the security services of the province of Batna.

 

  • The three men were brought before the General Prosecutor of Batna tribunal.

  • The Palestinian defendant confessed that he was awaiting the renewal of his passport to funnel the substances found in his Batna home to Gaza at the request of members of the Palestinian resistance there with whom he was regularly in contact via the Internet.

  • Mercury and crystal are very costly materials and they can be used for the making of explosives and home – made bombs.
