The Trade Ministry continues to study through the Joint Committee on Import Licensing, composed of representatives of the Ministries of Finance, Industry and Agriculture, the list of new products concerned by the import activities and which include agricultural products and foodstuffs, notably milk powder, cheese, corn, grains and apples.

As for cars and cement, their imports have been frozen pending the granting of new import licenses, valid for 6 months, and subject to renewal, for 30 up to 60 days, until at 14th February at least.

In terms of agricultural products, they are the same that were included in the import quotas at the time of the former minister, Amara Benyounès, covered by the agreement with the European Union.

If the domestic market’s needs arise, other quotas will be imported from America, Asia and Australia, according to trade ministry sources.

On the other hand, the Trade Minister Bakhti Belaïb, met with representatives of five exporting companies operating in various fields who asked him to grant them administrative and banking facilitations to open offices and representations in a number of countries in the world.

Their prime objective is to promote the Algerian-made products overseas and not fall well within the scope of the law because the monetary and credit Council at the regulatory level penalizes many exporters.
