Bitter rivalry resumes between Algeria and Egypt ahead of the semi-finals.

Benguela stadium will today host the first Africa’s Cup of Nations semi-finals scheduled at 08.30 pm local time opposing the Fennecs of Algeria to the Pharaohs of Egypt.

  • Today’s match will come against the backdrop of a bitter rivalry between both squads in the wake of the sad events that preceded the match between Egypt and Algeria counting for the qualification to the world Cup last November.
  • The Egyptians will try to do their utmost and win this match in a bid to catch up their setback before the Greens that barred them the route for South Africa; on the other hand, the desert foxes are resilient to play the match with a winning spirit to confirm their supremacy on their opponents outside their zone.
  • The Greens vowed to repeat Oum Darmen’s scenario when they snatched their tickets to the world Cup versus the same squad with flying colors. The task will not be easy for the Egyptians who have to shoulder relentless pressure from demanding fans who have never admitted their national squads’ defeat before the Algerians.
  • Considering the Fennecs’ performances all along this competition, one can say that the Greens are better equipped than their opponents; because not easy to come back in the race after a severe defeat in the first match.
  • The Algerian players proved that they had strong physical and mental abilities and bounced back with a meritorious victory over Mali and a draw versus hosts Angola to conclude with an brilliant performance versus the tournament’s favourites, Ivory Coast in the quarter –finals.
