Black ArtsWorld festival opens Friday in Dakar
DAKAR-The 3rd Black ArtsWorld Festival will open Friday in Dakar (Senegal) in the presence of African and Brazilian artists, organizers told news agencies.
Togolese Angelique Kidjo, Youssou N’Dour from Senegal, Brazilian Carlinhos Brown, South African band Mahotella Queens and major drum Senegalese Doudou N’Diaye Rose will perform at the opening of this event, the same sources added. Created by former Senegalese president Leopold Sedar Senghor, the first edition of the World Festival of Black Arts was held in Dakar in 1966 while in 1977, Nigeria hosted the second edition.
Postponed several times, the guest of honour of the edition of 2010 Festival will be Brazil, land of mixing and cultural diversity.
