Parliamentary groups of Algeria’s FLN party, Algeria’s Hope Rally and independents are expected to meet on Monday to agree on their alliance.

That shows that countdown started to pass the constitutional amendment at Parliament amid raising voices against the amendment project ahead of the presidential elections.

The FLN decided to look for new allies to replace its two traditional partners: the MSP and the RND.

The FLN concluded a new alliance with deputies of Algeria’s Hope party led by Amar Ghoul and independent deputies while it did not receive any clear reply from the Algerian Popular Movement’s parliamentary group led by Amara Benyounes.

Senior member at the TAJ party Ahmed Latifi considered that this new alliance is part of change in the political arena.

“Any alliance between deputies is supposed to coordinate about draft laws due to be passed in Parliament,” he told Echorouk.

This comes amid fears among opposition parties of possible constitutional amendment before the presidential elections.

He believes that the RND did not join the initiative because it has not finished rearranging its internal structures yet. It will hold its provincial meetings this week then regional meetings ahead of its national conference due to be held the end of the year to elect a new secretary general.

“The Algerian Popular Movement’s deputies showed some hesitation and did not give a final reply,” he said.

Chief of the RND’s parliamentary group Miloud Chorfi showed dissatisfaction because its group was excluded from this new parliamentary alliance.

“No one called us and we did not hear about this alliance. Yet, coordination continues with the FLN as a traditional ally of the RND. We are partners and we have never quitted the alliance,” he told Echorouk.
