Bouzid Irid to Echorouk: “Evangelization is an ogre spurred by some ill-advised media outlets”

Mohand Azouaouei whose real name is Bouzid Irid relates to Echorouk how he was woefully brought to embrace Christianity for a three-year period as part of a wave of evangelization which has swept across the Kabylia region over the past years before luckily returning later on to the religion of Islam.

  • To explain the whys and wherefores of his sudden conversion, Bouzid Irid wrote a book called “I was a Christian” in which he relates how he was driven to embrace Christianity on account of the insidious evangelization campaign covertly carried out over the past years by local missionaries in the Muslim Kabylia region and notably in the city of Tizi Ouzou where he lives with his family.
  •
  •
  •
  • He said that he was an easy prey for these evangelists who succeeded in foisting upon him their religious practices because, he said, he was young, jobless and quite ignorant of the lofty precepts of the religion of Islam.
  •
  •
  •
  •
  • Bouzid Irid indicated that once he embraced Christianity, he began to ask himself serious questions about the real foundations and scope of this religion and as the time passed by, he found out that the explanations given to him by these evangelists about it were ambiguous, dubious and left him in a quandary with a shaky faith.
  •
  •
  •
  •
  • He added that his mind and his heart were gnawing at him as he couldn’t accept with the passage of time, the Trinity belief in Christianity because in his innermost being he felt that Allah, God Almighty is one and only and has no associates as it is clearly stipulated in the “Tawhid Chapter” of the holy Koran.
  •
  •
  •
  •
  • Thanks to a salutary encounter with a local Muslim preacher in Tizi Ouzou, Bouzid Irid realized that his past religious practices as a Christian were not good for him and he decided forthwith to rejoin the Muslim fold knowing inwardly that his renewed faith in the noble, peaceful and tolerant religion of Islam is firm and the right one.
  •
  •
  •
  •
  • As a result, he also decided to write a book entitled “I was a Christian” in which he recounts in detail his hapless experience marked, from now and then, by a biting agony and anxiousness about his life in this world and in the hereafter.
  •
  •
  •
  •
  • He also dwelt largely on his salutary return to the religion of Islam which is “satisfying and rewarding” at all levels, as he put it.
  •
  •
  • Bouzid Irid, who is now fervently preaching in favour of Islam in the city of Tizi Ouzou among the Kabylian youngsters,  has called on the religious authorities to step up vigilance in the face of the creeping and insidious evangelization in the eastern Kabylia region whose vast majority of the population is Muslim and proud of the religion of Islam, he asserted.
  •
  •
  •
  •
  •
  • He also pointed out that seasoned and dutiful Imams should be sent to this region of Algeria to preach the word of Allah Almighty by explaining thoroughly the holy verses of the holy Koran and the high virtues and precepts of the religion of Islam in order to preclude deviations from the right path notably among some of the disillusioned local youth who could be “brainwashed” by opportunist evangelists who will foist on them the mendacious idea that the “grass is greener on the other side”.
