Cabinet members to endorse a law to fight against corruption

The cabinet members chaired by the Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia will tomorrow discuss during their meeting the revisions added to the law 06- 01 issued in March 2006 dealing with the fight against corruption, at the moment where the members of the National observatory for the fight against corruption are not anointed yet.

  •
  • The new institution will be entrusted with studying the phenomenon of corruption and setting up the appropriate procedures with a view to preventing and curbing this phenomenon. This new institution, whose task is mainly preventive rather and coercive, will be under the tutelage of the presidency.
  •
  • The members of the observatory have all the prerogatives and can get access to all the intelligence regardless even the top secret ones. The observatory will have the task to propose an overall policy to prevent corruption and complete the law that regulates the public contacts endorsed yesterday by the ministerial council.
  •
  •  The new law is not designed to punish cases of corruption only, but also to curb embezzlement, blackmailing and illegal financing of political parties.
