CAF disciplinary board to sanction Morocco’s delegation chief and fine FAF
Chamakh will not be sanctioned

The Disciplinary Board of the African Football Confederation (CAF) will meet later this month or early May to decide on the events of Algeria-Morocco match as part of the Group D third round of CAN 2012 qualifiers played on last 27 March in Annaba province, an official source at the CAF revealed.

  • The source said the disciplinary board will examine the match report submitted by FIFA security official, the report of the match referee, and the report of the match official, before deciding on the case.
  • The same source assumed that he only person who is subject to CAF sanctions is the head of the Moroccan delegation, who verbally aggressed the referees. Arsenal striker Merouane Chamakh will not be sanctioned, though he broke the glass of the match referee car, when the latter left the stadium. The Madagascar referee said he was not sure who attacked him.
  • However, the Algerian Football Federation will be fined 20 000 US dollars, due to misconduct of supporters who threw fireworks into the pitch and whistled when the Moroccan hymn was played on.
