Central Africa outplays Algeria 2-0 in Bangui

Algeria's run of dismal form hit a new low on Sunday in Bangui with a 2-nil shock defeat by Central Africa in the 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifying round.

  • The hosts were the more lively in attack throughout a game played in heavy rain, but had to wait until the 81st minute to make their superiority count, with forward Audin Boutou firing home from a distance of about 20 meters.

  • Central Africa striker Kethevoama Therence scored the second goal for his team on the break five minutes later.

  • Algeria has not won in seven games and lies bottom of Group D, which is led by Central Africa on goal difference ahead of Morocco after two matches.

  •  New national team coach Abdelhak Benchikha has been unable to reverse a run of form which has seen Algeria fail to win a match since beating the Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations quarterfinals in January.

  • Central Africa pressurized the visitors from the start, as Algeria struggled in the absence of injured key midfielders Karim Ziani and Karim Matmour.

  • Lecce midfielder Djemal Mesbah had a  good chance to score for Algeria in the first half, but shot straight at the goalkeeper.

  • In the second half, Central Africa could have taken the lead earlier than it did but Algerian striker Rafik Djebbour missed the target in front of the central Africa goalkeeper after being well set up by Abdelkader Ghezzal.

  • Algeria’s next match is at home against Morocco next March, while Central Africa travels to Tanzania who were defeated 1 -nil at home by Morocco on Saturday in Dar Essalem.
