The Algerians were found in 2002 hiding in the boat on its way to Russia. It docked at the Port of Oran (west of Algiers) to go to the Port of Russia. The only survivor of them said they were beaten and the Chinese captain ordered to handcuff them on wooden barrels. Two of them died. On of their bodies was found while the other one is believed to be eaten by fishes. The third victim was saved by miracle. A foreign boat rescued him and transported his friend’s body.
Investigators identified the Chinese boat and its captain and the case was opened on Friday before a court in Oran. Attorney General described the facts as “very serious and inhuman,” seeking life sentence for the captain who is on the run.
Previously, a foreign boat threw a group of Algerian illegal immigrants into the sea and were all killed.
