Chinese motorcycles invade Algerian streets
Algeria has imported for $ 11.7 million of motorcycles in 2010, compared with $ 30.9 million in 2009, customs figures say
- The cause behind the shrink of the Algerian imports’ bill is due to the fact that in 2008 and 2009 the motorcycles were brought from Germany, but in 2010 China has become the first provider outrunning thus Germany.
- In a declaration to Echourok, the retired police officer Mohammed Laazouni has indicated that he was against the use these light vehicles because they are more dangerous than cars “ Though I spent my life riding a motorcycle, I must admit that cars are much more safer”.
- M Laazouni has further indicated that “ the growing number of motorcycles was due to the traffic jam, this number is even higher at the end of the winter season… though the users of this locomotion are more likely to arrive on time to their working places, they are nonetheless, prone to danger”.
- The interlocutor has also indicated that the problem of traffic in Algeria is closely linked to the lack of appropriate public transportation services, forcing citizens to use their own vehicles for their daily movements.
- “ This problem will disappear with the availability of an efficient transportation services because people, then will limit the use of their own vehicles to the week ends”, he added.
