Chinese Workers Storm AADL Housing Workshop Western Algeria
Dozens of Chinese workers in the AADL Housing project for the years 2001 and 2002 in Sidi Bel Abbes (Western Algeria), stormed the place to prevent private contractors who have been assigned for the completion of the works, and things noticed serious irregularities after the Chinese workers destroyed the achievements of a private enterprise.
Sources told Echorouk that the Chinese workers came from the cities of Mostaganem and Oran (western Algeria), on board of a number of buses, to storm the construction workshop, and tried to prevent the workers of a private Algerian contracting company from the completion of the works inside the housings, and soon things evolved after they destroyed the uproot tiles and smashed the construction equipment of the company.
Echorouk called the entrepreneur and he confirmed that his company won the sub-project of putting the tiles inside the houses, having met all the conditions and procedures in place; “We were surprised of the storming of a large number of Chinese in the workshop and trying to prevent our workers from continuing their jobs, and they dared to uproot tiles that we have developed and smashed some construction equipment, and things noticed dangerous developments, when harassing some workers, trying to assault them, and to avoid the aggravation of the situation, we avoided to engage with them in a conflict and they forced us to suspend the works.”
Some sources reported that the Chinese workers belong to a Chinese company that has already won a contract for the completion of works of putting tiles in houses in Sidi Bel Abbes, Oran and Mostaganem, however, for unknown reasons the contract was frozen, and the project was assigned to a subcontracting Algerian company, which sparked Chinese anger and pushed them to carry out such acts, as they went out to the adjacent road of the project in the district of August 20 in Sidi Bel Abbes, carrying banners that are written in Chinese, amid the beneficiaries fears of hindering the achievement, and this will cause the delay in the date of receiving their houses.
