Chrysler seeks factory in Algeria
US-Algeria Business Council chairman said Saturday a representative of US Chrysler car maker would examine with Algerian industry minister Hamid Temmar the possibility of setting up a factory in Algeria.

In its second session held in Algiers, Ismael Chikhoun, CEO of US-Algeria Business Council said 30 US chief executives and groups work in high technologies and technological solutions for industrial sector, water, environment, tourism, agriculture, car making, medicines, construction and public works.

“The company in charge of New Hassi Messaoud town has put suitable conditions to get high level ventures,” Chikhoun told Echorouk.

“It will be an integrated town including universities, research centres and training centres for hydrocarbons, mines and renewable staff,” he added.

Speaking on anonymous conditions, an official said political authorities in both countries reached a final agreement on the opening of a direct air route between Algiers and New York before the end of 2009.

“The Algerian ambassador to the United States Abdellah Baali will announce the decision within the next few weeks in an official ceremony,” said the same source.

“It is him (the ambassador) who managed to overcome technical hindrances of the air route which will have very positive economic and political consequences.”

US ambassador to Algeria David Pearce said the new US administration decided to reinforce its economic and commercial ties with Algeria.

He added that a delegation from the US State Department is expected to pay a visit to Algeria in November as Algeria is the commercial partner of the US in the Middle East.
