Algerian housing ministry gave an urgent instruction to construction workshops in charge of achieving big housing projects to ensure minimum service during the fasting month of Ramadan.

“Housing directors signed agreements with companies in charge of big housing projects to modify working hours during Ramadan,” said chief of the Building Contractors’ National Union Salim Kasmi.

In previous years, many workshops stopped working during Ramadan. Because of that, the ministry hired foreign workers including Chinese to complete the construction.

“Growth rate in construction projects went down by 30 percent during Ramadan due to working hours reduction to 5 from 8. Workers’ productivity decreases due to heat, thirst and fatigue,” said Kasmi.
