Creeping “Shia” trend in El Oued province, according to official report
A creeping Shia phenomenon has slowly been making its way among worshippers in the region of El Oued in south –eastern Algeria since the start of the holy month of fasting of Ramadan, according to an official assessment report issued of late by the commission in charge of social and cultural affairs at the popular council of the Governorship of the city of El Oued.
-
The report says that certain adverse practices culled from the Shia religious doctrine are being applied by a certain number of credulous worshippers in the city of El Oued in total contradiction with the widespread Malekite rite which has been deeply anchored for many centuries here in Algeria.
-
-
The report calls for all-out vigilance and wisdom on the part of the Algerian worshippers in order to avert any blow or damaging deviation from the well-established Malekite rite in Algeria with the creeping intrusion of any Shia or strange religious practices into our Sunni principles.
-
-
However, this alarming report issued by the local authorities was later discounted by the provincial religious affairs commission which denied any Shia trend emerging among the El Oued worshippers, stressing that no tangible evidence of such ill-advised and deleterious deviations was brought in this report.
