Customs officers to go on strike in Algeria

Customs officers to go on strike in Algeria

Customs officers are expected to go on strike on Wednesday in ports, airports and provincial departments upon a call from their coordination.

  • The National Coordination of Customs Officers told Echorouk it took the strike decision as dialogue with the administration was blocked.
  •
  • It accused officials of lying about the compensation system.
  •
  • Customs officers complain of injustice and bad conditions in customs management.
  •
  • They warned over escalating their protesting movement by going on an open strike in all the ports and airports if the general department continues its “repressive practices.”
  •
  • This comes after the human resources director of customs Boudjeltia Djajouli was dismissed. The coordination put pressure to fire him after a regional director prevented elections to renew the union branch in the area of Ain Taya.
  •
  • The union’s members condemned the human resources director and Secretary General of Customs Officers’ Federation’s management policy.
  •
  • The coordination asked the Algerian finance minister Karim Djoudi to assign an independent commission to lead an investigation in the human resources department.
