Despite participation of 120 Arab publishing houses in the largest Arab cultural event, Algeria will be missing

The participation of more than 120 Arab publishing houses in the International Children’s Book Exhibition, organised in the UAE under the slogan « Come and read this week » which is a great promotion for the book industry in the world.

The Fair of Sharjah International Children’s Books is one of the biggest cultural events in the Arab publication industry and the children(s especially. The event, being important for the exchange of experiences and expertise between the book makers, would have seen Algerians taking part in. The site is to hold a lot of commercial transactions in the area of co-publishing and translation of the child’s book. For this purpose, the fair invited experts in psychology, sociology as well as cultural relations.

But the strange thing is that Algeria will be absent from such an important event in the world of culture and publication, especially since the Algerian scene suffers from a lack of great writing in children’s literature. In addition to poor publishing techniques, Algerian professionals have lacks in marketing and promoting children’s book. They were indeed unable to make children read by interesting them.

Elsewhere, we find that most Arab publishing houses are keen to attend the exhibition, a space to communicate with the Arab markets, particularly the Gulf, in which enormous sums of money are invested in the children’s book industry. It could have been an opportunity for Algerian publishers to benefit from the experiences and approaches of Arab and other professionals especially aspects linked to psychological thinking.

Usually, organisers invite publishers to participating in the exhibition as well as advisers, writers, contractors and other professionals. Seminars and debates are also organised on the sidelines of the exhibition which helps them improve children’s books provides significant opportunities of expertise and modern methods in this area.

The cause of the absence of the Algerian National Association of publishers from such exhibitions is unknown as we could not get in touch with its president.

On the other hand, next week will be held in Algiers , the National Book Fair, which coincides with the Paris international Book Exhibition which hosts Israel as an honourable guest at this edition.
