Drafting of national charter to regulate Internet use by youngsters
The Minister of posts, information technologies and telecommunications, Abdelhamid Bessalah, has announced the drafting shortly of a national charter strictly regulating the activities of Cyber Cafés in Algeria by notably banning certain nefarious Websites in order to protect children and youngsters who regularly frequent these public spaces in search of information and escapism on the Internet.

According to Mr. Bessalah, these stringent and preventive measures will be enforced as from next month across all the national territory.

Under the new charter, all youngsters under age will be banned from entering Cyber Cafés at night and the managers of the Cyber Cafés will be compelled to publish on a notice board all the forbidden Websites which could have a deviating and deleterious impact on the youth as part of this overall “cleansing” policy worked out by the public authorities regarding the suitable and decent use of the Internet in Algeria.
